We make two lanterns and we make them for the same moment: the sun is gone, the table is still full, and the flyers arrive. The Zap T6 Pro is the wide one for open yards; the JY-02 is the slim one for balconies, camp hooks and tight corners. Both carry a 4,200-volt grid around a 15 W blue-violet lamp.

Ten to twenty feet away, a little above head height. Close enough to share the yard, far enough to pull the flyers away from you.
They catch some. Mosquitoes hunt by breath and warmth as much as by light, while moths, gnats, midges and flies answer to UV far more readily. Our notes on what the light calls in go deeper.
It works hardest from dusk to about midnight, when flyers are most active. Many of our owners put it on a plug-in timer.
